The show is scheduled to last for eight (8) weeks, whereby each week will feature the on-stage performances of the contestants on a day of the weekend alone. These performances are to be assessed by a very experienced board of judges (3) plus the presence of guest artistes on eviction days, who will also lay comments on each performance before eviction is done. The contestants will be judged by the three-man board of judges based on their renditions and this goes on every week. Based on that, any probation/eviction to be announced will be as a result of thorough examination by the judges and voting via sms by fans and viewers. Every performance will be judged, mainly for its interpretation. Different genres of music and modes of rendition have been analyzed for each week of the competition, and these include the following segments:
The competition will last for eight (8) weeks, each of which is tagged a specific theme for the genre of music to be rendered, with costumes and backgrounds to match.
RHYTHM & BLUES (R ‘N’ B): ‘’riding on the blues’’- this segment is tagged ‘’riding on the blues’’ for the slow and romantic feel that R n B songs do communicate. A typical R n B song is simply meant to be played around, under a mild atmosphere and ridden with a very smooth modulation to really forge out its essence. Classic R ‘n’ B songs will be made available for the contestants; this genre of music requires a very skilled mode of delivery and careful rendition will be duly observed here. This prompts an automatic song selection for the contestants by the academy instructors, to really bring out the best from their vocal strength.
.
· SOUL MUSIC:’’ the depth within’’-Similar to Rhythm & Blues, only that it requires a deeper concentration of singing from a profoundly characterized level of inspiration. Soul music is taken more lightly in this sense, so to maintain its level of communication. The depths from which the emotions and voice pitch can be translated to the audience/judges are the principal features to be watched out for here. Also features an automatic song selection for the contestants by the academy instructors for the same purpose aforementioned.
· HIP HOP: ‘the wild style’’ - This is a rhythmic representation of poetry & spoken words, often represented with more attitudes to the rhythm. A very perfect way to make a breathtaking Hip Hop rendition is when the performer puts on a very sophisticated personality with incredible attitude while performing. The basic understanding of the song, interpretation, stage utility, costume and versatility will constitute the points to be obtained in this segment.
· JAZZ: ‘’the solemn jive’’: A type of music where the instruments are made to work more; in harmony with the singer. Here, a more relaxed tune is produced with a high measure of delivery in order to create a medium of connectivity with the audience. This category of music requires more maturity and interpretation for a successful rendition. What a Jazzy way to connect with the soul!!!
· POP: ‘’getting young again’’: Pop out your style, with melodic attitude and innocence. Music of general appeal to teenagers; a bland watered down version of rock ‘n’ roll with more rhythm and harmony and an emphasis on romantic love. Here, the contestants dress in a way to look younger while they begin their quest of soul riding with their unique definition of love outreach through Pop music. Pop Pop! Pop! …… Pop it out!!!
· DUETS: ‘’2 can make it sound’’: Tagged ‘’2 can make it sound” as the concept of two (2) singers working together for a common melody duly applies. Each contestant will be paired with another to work on and deliver a song (a duet) together. A thorough blend of vocal pitch and strength from both singers will be carefully examined by the judges, as well as their ability to produce a common tune (as the original song asserts), and teamwork ability.
· REGGAE: ‘‘free and wild’’….. Reggae is a unique type of music, also similar to Soul music, in that they both possess the comparable depth to which a soul can be elevated. The contestants are expected to emulate the Rastafarian-like attitude that will really project the core feelings derived from the music. This segment is tagged ‘’free and wild’’ due to a higher realm of soul the music can elevate everyone involved in its rendition (both the performer and the audience). Effective use of costumes will be duly observed here as well.
· DISCO: ‘’groove & colours’’: Just as the tag reads ‘’club groove & colours’’ Disco is a popular dance music (especially in the late 1970’s) melodic with a regular bass beat; intended mainly for dancing at discotheques. It will be a very colourful evening for this segment with lots of glistening decorations to really portray its uniqueness. The audience and viewers in general should expect something they have not seen before on any music show. DISCO all the way!!!!!!!!!
· MY DEDICATION: This is the climax of the show. Here, several evictions would have been accomplished so the contestants would have been reduced to six (5), where songs from the icon acknowledged (Late Mrs. Chisty Essien Igbokwe’s (MFR) for maiden edition) will be distributed to them . it is the only segment of the competition where they will have to record the songs at the studio before performing it on stage. The contestants are to make a remix of the songs assigned to them in their unique way and style. In order to achieve this, they will work with high-profile music producers in the music industry. But a massive deviation from the original song will attract reduction in points, because not only are they making a remix of the original songs but also portraying the qualities a legend. So it is the turning point of the whole show in discovering the new Lady of songs, therefore the best performance carries the day and will be pivotal in determining the new Lady of songs.
· THE BAND AND I: This is a blend of different kinds of music to be infused in just one performance. The contestants will select a three-music scheme and turn them into a single performance, thereby, making it sound like a remix of the originals. It will be more of a highlife performance, where each contestant plays in tune with the band to rock the judges, audience and viewers. The ability to produce a unique modulation of the pulse and total carriage of the audience wins the day.
· AFRICAN: ‘’back to the soil’’: Features different renditions of African music across the continent. The contestants will choose from a given number of African songs and render their performances with the appropriate traditional attires. Various African music instruments are to be provided where necessary.
· SELF-COMPOSED SONGS: This segment will come on the final day of the show, when after series of evictions the finalists are tasked to compose songs based on topic assigned to them by the academy. Every necessary addition (stage setting, backup vocalists, concepts etc), will be duly provided to add more colors to their performances. Part of the winner’s emergence will duly depend on this segment, which will help analyze their creativity. However, the best song will be determined by votes from the viewers whose avenue will be through SMS in support of their favorite song and performance. The winner of this segment will be announced on the same day, which will constitute to her points as the first winner of the Lady of Songs.
